Materials You’ll Need

Steps

  1. Prepare your engine. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Cover any sensitive electrical components, such as the alternator and battery, with plastic bags.
  2. Apply engine degreaser. Spray the engine degreaser onto the engine and allow it to sit for a few minutes. This will help to loosen any dirt and grime.
  3. Steam clean the engine. Fill the steam cleaner with water and turn it on. Hold the steam nozzle about 6 inches away from the engine and move it back and forth over the surface. Be sure to get into all the nooks and crannies.
  4. Wipe down the engine. Once you have finished steam cleaning the engine, use a clean cloth to wipe down the surface and remove any remaining dirt or grime.
  5. Reconnect the battery terminal and start the engine. Allow the engine to run for a few minutes to dry off.

Tips

  • Be careful not to get water into any electrical components.
  • If you have a particularly dirty engine, you may need to repeat the process several times.
  • Steam cleaning your engine regularly will help to keep it running smoothly and efficiently.
