How to Start an Automatic Car
Step 1: Get in the car and close the door.
Make sure you are sitting in the driver’s seat and that the door is closed. This will help to prevent the car from moving while you are trying to start it.
Step 2: Put the key in the ignition.
The ignition is usually located on the steering column. Insert the key and turn it to the “On” position. You should hear the engine start to turn over.
Step 3: Depress the brake pedal.
This will help to keep the car from moving while you are shifting gears.
Step 4: Shift the gear selector to “Drive”.
The gear selector is usually located on the center console. Move the lever to the “Drive” position.
Step 5: Release the brake pedal.
The car will start to move forward.
Step 6: Adjust the steering wheel and seat.
Make sure you are comfortable and that you have a good view of the road.
Step 7: Drive safely!
Remember to obey the speed limit and to be aware of your surroundings.
Tips
- If the car does not start, try turning the key to the “Off” position and then back to the “On” position.
- If the car still does not start, check the battery terminals to make sure they are clean and tight.
- If the battery terminals are clean and tight, the starter may be faulty. You will need to have the starter replaced.
Warnings
- Never start the car in a closed garage. The exhaust fumes can be deadly.
- Always wear your seat belt when driving.
- Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
