## How to Remove an Engine from the Bottom of a Car Without a Lift

Safety First

Before beginning any work, ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface with the parking brake engaged. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent any electrical hazards. Wear appropriate safety gear, including gloves, safety glasses, and coveralls.

Materials Required

* Creeper
* Socket wrenches and ratchets
* Wrench set
* Drain pan
* Fluid extractor
* Floor jack
* Jack stands

Step 1: Prepare the Engine Compartment

* Open the hood and remove the air intake system, along with any hoses or electrical connections that may obstruct access to the engine.
* Locate and remove the bell housing bolts, which connect the engine to the transmission.
* Disconnect any electrical harnesses or coolant lines connected to the engine.

Step 2: Drain Fluids

* Place the drain pan under the oil pan and remove the drain plug to drain the engine oil.
* Use a fluid extractor to evacuate any remaining oil or fluids from the engine, such as coolant or transmission fluid.

Step 3: Support the Engine

* Position the floor jack under the engine’s oil pan.
* Slowly raise the engine using the floor jack until there is sufficient clearance from the ground.
* Place jack stands on both sides of the engine for support.

Step 4: Disconnect the Exhaust System

* Locate the exhaust manifold or headers and remove the bolts or nuts that connect them to the engine.
* Unhook the oxygen sensors and any other sensors connected to the exhaust system.
* Carefully guide the exhaust system out from under the car.

Step 5: Separate Engine from Transmission

* Using a combination of wrenches and ratchets, remove the bolts that connect the starter to the flywheel.
* Slide the starter out of its mounting location.
* Unbolt the torque converter from the flywheel.

Step 6: Lower the Engine

* Slowly lower the engine using the floor jack.
* Guide the engine out from under the car by sliding it backward.
* Be cautious when moving the engine to prevent any damage to yourself or the vehicle.

Additional Tips

* If you encounter any stubborn bolts or nuts, use penetrating fluid to loosen them.
* Keep track of all the bolts and fasteners you remove and label them for easy reassembly.
* When draining fluids, ensure that they are handled and disposed of responsibly according to local regulations.
* If you are not comfortable performing this task yourself, consult a qualified mechanic for assistance.
