How to Put Engine Oil in a Car

Step 1: Gather your materials

You will need the following materials:

* New engine oil (check your car’s owner’s manual for the recommended type and amount)
* Oil filter (if you are changing it)
* Oil filter wrench
* Funnel
* Rags

Step 2: Safety first

Park your car on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Allow the engine to cool for at least 30 minutes before you begin. This will help to prevent burns.

Step 3: Locate the oil drain plug

The oil drain plug is usually located on the bottom of the oil pan. It is a bolt that has a washer on it.

Step 4: Place the oil pan under the drain plug

Place the oil pan under the drain plug to catch the old oil.

Step 5: Remove the drain plug

Use the oil filter wrench to loosen the drain plug. Be careful not to drop the washer.

Step 6: Allow the oil to drain

Allow the old oil to drain into the oil pan. This may take several minutes.

Step 7: Replace the drain plug

Once the oil has drained, replace the drain plug. Tighten the drain plug until it is snug. Do not overtighten the drain plug.

Step 8: Locate the oil filter

The oil filter is usually located near the top of the engine. It is a cylindrical-shaped object with a black cap.

Step 9: Remove the oil filter

Use the oil filter wrench to loosen the oil filter. Be careful not to spill any oil.

Step 10: Apply a thin coat of oil to the gasket of the new oil filter

Apply a thin coat of oil to the gasket of the new oil filter. This will help to create a seal and prevent leaks.

Step 11: Install the new oil filter

Screw the new oil filter onto the engine. Tighten the oil filter until it is snug. Do not overtighten the oil filter.

Step 12: Add new oil to the engine

Use the funnel to add new oil to the engine. Add the amount of oil specified in your car’s owner’s manual.

Step 13: Check the oil level

Use the dipstick to check the oil level. The oil level should be between the “low” and “full” marks on the dipstick.

Step 14: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes

Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will circulate the new oil throughout the engine.

Step 15: Check for leaks

Check for any leaks around the oil drain plug and oil filter. If you see any leaks, tighten the drain plug or oil filter until the leak stops.

Congratulations! You have now successfully changed the engine oil in your car.
