Parts of a Car Engine
1. Engine Block
The engine block is the main structural component of the engine. It houses the crankshaft, pistons, and other moving parts. The engine block is made of cast iron or aluminum.
2. Cylinder Head
The cylinder head is located on top of the engine block. It contains the valves, spark plugs, and injectors. The cylinder head is made of aluminum or cast iron.
3. Pistons
The pistons are cylindrical-shaped components that move up and down within the cylinders. They are connected to the crankshaft by connecting rods. The pistons compress the air-fuel mixture in the cylinders.
4. Crankshaft
The crankshaft is a rotating shaft that converts the reciprocating motion of the pistons into rotational motion. The crankshaft is connected to the transmission, which transmits power to the wheels.
5. Camshaft
The camshaft is a shaft that controls the opening and closing of the valves. The camshaft is driven by the crankshaft through a timing belt or chain.
6. Valves
The valves are spring-loaded components that control the flow of air and fuel into and out of the cylinders. The intake valves allow air and fuel to enter the cylinders, while the exhaust valves allow exhaust gases to escape.
7. Spark Plugs
The spark plugs provide the spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture in the cylinders. The spark plugs are located in the cylinder head.
8. Injectors
The injectors spray fuel into the cylinders. The injectors are located in the cylinder head.
9. Oil Pump
The oil pump circulates oil throughout the engine. The oil pump is driven by the crankshaft.
10. Water Pump
The water pump circulates coolant through the engine. The water pump is driven by the crankshaft.
