Instructions

1. Cut a large piece of cardboard into the shape of an engine block. This will be the base of your engine.
2. Cut smaller pieces of cardboard to create the cylinders, pistons, and crankshaft. Glue these pieces to the engine block.
3. Paint the engine block and all of the components black or silver.
4. Cut a piece of wire and bend it into a shape that resembles a camshaft. Glue the camshaft to the engine block.
5. Cut two small circles out of cardboard and glue them to the camshaft. These will be the valves.
6. Cut a small piece of cardboard and glue it to the crankshaft. This will be the flywheel.
7. Assemble the engine by inserting the pistons into the cylinders and attaching the crankshaft to the flywheel. Connect the wire from the battery to the motor and insert the motor into the engine block. The motor will rotate the crankshaft when it is turned on.

Tips

• You can use any type of cardboard for this project, but thicker cardboard will be more durable.
• If you don’t have a small motor, you can use a rubber band to rotate the crankshaft.
