How to Put a New Engine in Your Car

Step 1: Gather Your Tools and Materials

  • New engine
  • Engine hoist
  • Engine stand
  • Wrench set
  • Socket set
  • Screwdriver set
  • Pliers
  • Hammer
  • Chisel
  • Oil filter wrench
  • Coolant drain pan
  • New engine oil
  • New engine coolant
  • New spark plugs
  • New belts and hoses

Step 2: Remove the Old Engine

  1. Disconnect the battery.
  2. Drain the engine oil and coolant.
  3. Remove the air filter housing.
  4. Disconnect the fuel lines.
  5. Disconnect the exhaust system.
  6. Disconnect the electrical wiring harness.
  7. Remove the transmission.
  8. Attach the engine hoist to the engine.
  9. Lift the engine out of the car.

Step 3: Install the New Engine

  1. Lower the new engine into the car.
  2. Attach the transmission.
  3. Connect the electrical wiring harness.
  4. Connect the exhaust system.
  5. Connect the fuel lines.
  6. Install the air filter housing.
  7. Pour in the new engine oil.
  8. Fill the radiator with the new engine coolant.
  9. Install the new spark plugs.
  10. Install the new belts and hoses.
  11. Reconnect the battery.

Step 4: Start the Engine and Check for Leaks

  1. Start the engine.
  2. Check for any leaks.
  3. If there are no leaks, drive the car around for a few days to break in the new engine.
