How to Make a Toy Car Engine
Materials
- Two small DC motors (1.5-3 volts)
- One 9-volt battery
- Two lengths of wire (about 6 inches each)
- One small piece of cardboard (about 2 inches square)
- One small piece of aluminum foil (about 1 inch square)
- One small piece of tape
Instructions
Step 1: Connect the motors to the battery.
Connect one wire to the positive terminal of the battery and the other wire to the negative terminal of the battery. Then, connect one end of each wire to one of the terminals on each motor.
Step 2: Make the flywheel.
Cut a circle out of the cardboard. The circle should be about 1 inch in diameter. Then, cover the circle with aluminum foil.
Step 3: Attach the flywheel to the motors.
Tape the flywheel to the shaft of one of the motors. Make sure that the flywheel is centered on the shaft.
Step 4: Test the engine.
Turn on the battery. The motors should start to spin and the flywheel should start to turn. If the engine doesn’t work, check the connections and make sure that the flywheel is centered on the shaft.
Tips
- You can use different sized motors and batteries to make different sized engines.
- You can add gears to the engine to make it more powerful.
- You can use a switch to turn the engine on and off.
Troubleshooting
- If the engine doesn’t work, check the connections and make sure that the flywheel is centered on the shaft.
- If the engine is too weak, try using a larger motor or battery.
- If the engine is too fast, try using a smaller motor or battery.
