How to Install an Engine into a Lincoln Town Car

Tools and Materials

  • Engine hoist
  • Engine stand
  • Transmission jack
  • Floor jack
  • Jack stands
  • Socket wrench set
  • Allen wrench set
  • Torque wrench
  • Oil filter wrench
  • Coolant drain pan
  • New engine oil
  • New engine coolant
  • New spark plugs
  • New belts
  • New hoses

Preparation

  1. Disconnect the battery.
  2. Drain the coolant from the radiator.
  3. Remove the air cleaner.
  4. Remove the intake manifold.
  5. Remove the exhaust manifolds.
  6. Remove the starter.
  7. Remove the alternator.
  8. Remove the power steering pump.
  9. Remove the air conditioning compressor.
  10. Remove the fuel injection system.
  11. Remove the transmission.

Engine Installation

  1. Place the engine on the engine stand.
  2. Attach the engine hoist to the engine.
  3. Position the engine over the engine bay.
  4. Lower the engine into the engine bay.
  5. Attach the transmission to the engine.
  6. Attach the exhaust manifolds to the engine.
  7. Attach the intake manifold to the engine.
  8. Attach the starter to the engine.
  9. Attach the alternator to the engine.
  10. Attach the power steering pump to the engine.
  11. Attach the air conditioning compressor to the engine.
  12. Attach the fuel injection system to the engine.
  13. Install the air cleaner.
  14. Fill the engine with oil.
  15. Fill the radiator with coolant.
  16. Replace the spark plugs.
  17. Replace the belts.
  18. Replace the hoses.
  19. Reconnect the battery.

Testing

  1. Start the engine.
  2. Check for leaks.
  3. Test drive the vehicle.
