How to Get Flood Water Out of Car Engine
1. Remove the spark plugs.
This will allow the water to drain out of the cylinders. Use a spark plug wrench to remove the spark plugs.
2. Crank the engine over.
This will help to expel the water from the cylinders. Be careful not to crank the engine over for too long, as this can damage the engine.
3. Remove the air filter.
This will allow the water to drain out of the intake manifold. Use a screwdriver to remove the air filter housing.
4. Clean the spark plugs and air filter.
Use a clean cloth to wipe down the spark plugs and air filter. Replace the spark plugs and air filter.
5. Check the oil level.
The flood water may have contaminated the oil. Use a dipstick to check the oil level. If the oil is dirty, it should be changed.
6. Change the oil filter.
The oil filter can trap water and dirt. Replace the oil filter even if the oil is clean.
7. Start the engine.
Once you have completed all of the above steps, start the engine. The engine may run rough at first, but it should eventually smooth out.
Tips
- If the water is very deep, you may need to remove the battery and alternator before starting the engine.
- Do not drive the car if the engine is still running rough.
- Have the car inspected by a mechanic as soon as possible to ensure that there is no further damage.
