How to Flush Car Engine Oil
Flushing car engine oil is an important part of regular car maintenance. It helps to remove contaminants and sludge from the engine, which can help to improve performance and extend the life of the engine.
Step 1: Gather your materials
You will need the following materials to flush your car engine oil:
- New engine oil (check your owner’s manual for the correct type and amount of oil)
- New oil filter
- Oil pan
- Funnel
- Wrench
- Gloves
- Safety glasses
Step 2: Prepare your car
Before you begin flushing your engine oil, you need to prepare your car. Park your car on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Allow the engine to cool down completely.
Step 3: Locate the oil pan
The oil pan is located at the bottom of the engine. It is usually made of metal and has a drain plug.
Step 4: Drain the old oil
Place the oil pan under the oil pan drain plug. Loosen the drain plug with the wrench and allow the oil to drain into the pan. Be careful not to get any oil on yourself or your clothes.
Step 5: Replace the drain plug
Once the oil has drained, replace the drain plug and tighten it with the wrench.
Step 6: Locate the oil filter
The oil filter is usually located on the side of the engine. It is a cylindrical-shaped component with a black cap.
Step 7: Remove the oil filter
Use the wrench to loosen the oil filter cap. Be careful not to spill any oil. Once the cap is loose, remove the oil filter by hand.
Step 8: Install the new oil filter
Lubricate the gasket on the new oil filter with a small amount of new engine oil. Screw on the new oil filter by hand until it is tight. Then, tighten the filter an additional 3/4 turn with the wrench.
Step 9: Add new engine oil
Use the funnel to add new engine oil to the engine. Add the amount of oil specified in your owner’s manual.
Step 10: Check the oil level
Use the dipstick to check the oil level. The oil level should be between the “add” and “full” marks on the dipstick.
Step 11: Start the engine
Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will circulate the new oil throughout the engine.
Step 12: Check for leaks
Check under the car for any leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the drain plug or oil filter until the leak stops.
