How to Clean a Car Engine
A clean engine is a happy engine. A clean engine is more efficient, runs cooler, and lasts longer. Cleaning your car engine is a relatively simple task that can be completed in a few hours.
Materials
- Engine degreaser
- Pressure washer
- Bucket
- Sponge
- Clean towels
Instructions
1. Gather your materials
Before you start, gather all of the materials you will need. This includes an engine degreaser, a pressure washer, a bucket, a sponge, and clean towels.
2. Prepare your car
Park your car in a well-ventilated area. Open the hood and allow the engine to cool down. Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical shorts.
3. Apply the engine degreaser
Apply the engine degreaser to the engine, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Allow the degreaser to soak in for the recommended amount of time.
4. Pressure wash the engine
Use the pressure washer to rinse the engine degreaser from the engine. Start from the top of the engine and work your way down. Be careful not to spray water directly into the electrical components.
5. Sponge the engine
Use the sponge to clean any remaining dirt or grime from the engine. Dip the sponge in the bucket of water and wring it out. Wipe down the engine, paying special attention to the areas around the spark plugs and ignition coils.
6. Dry the engine
Use the clean towels to dry the engine. Start from the top of the engine and work your way down. Make sure the engine is completely dry before reconnecting the battery.
