How to Clean Car Engine Oil

Step 1: Gather your materials.

Before you start, you’ll need to gather a few supplies. These include:

  • A funnel
  • A new oil filter
  • A new oil filter gasket
  • A wrench
  • A bucket
  • Old rags

Step 2: Locate the oil drain plug.

The oil drain plug is typically located on the bottom of the oil pan. It will be a bolt with a washer around it.

Step 3: Place the bucket under the oil drain plug.

Make sure the bucket is large enough to catch all of the oil that will drain out.

Step 4: Loosen the oil drain plug.

Use the wrench to loosen the oil drain plug. Be careful not to overtighten it.

Step 5: Allow the oil to drain.

Allow all of the oil to drain into the bucket.

Step 6: Replace the oil drain plug.

Once all of the oil has drained, replace the oil drain plug and tighten it.

Step 7: Locate the oil filter.

The oil filter is typically located near the top of the engine.

Step 8: Remove the oil filter.

Use the wrench to remove the oil filter. Be careful not to spill any oil.

Step 9: Apply a new oil filter gasket.

Apply a new oil filter gasket to the new oil filter.

Step 10: Install the new oil filter.

Screw on the new oil filter by hand until it is tight.

Step 11: Add new oil.

Use the funnel to add new oil to the engine. Add the amount of oil specified in your vehicle’s owner’s manual.

Step 12: Check the oil level.

Use the dipstick to check the oil level. The oil level should be between the “min” and “max” marks on the dipstick.

Step 13: Dispose of the old oil and filter.

Dispose of the old oil and filter at your local auto parts store.
