## How to Change a Smart Car Engine

Safety Precautions

* Park the Smart Car on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
* Allow the engine to cool down completely.

Step-by-Step Instructions

**1. Remove the Engine Cover and Air Filter Box**

* Locate the engine cover on top of the engine and remove the fasteners holding it in place.
* Disconnect the air intake hose from the air filter box and remove the air filter box.

**2. Drain the Coolant**

* Place a coolant drain pan under the radiator.
* Locate the radiator drain plug and open it using a wrench.
* Allow the coolant to drain completely into the pan.

**3. Drain the Transmission Fluid**

* Place a transmission fluid drain pan under the transmission.
* Locate the transmission drain plug and open it using a wrench.
* Allow the transmission fluid to drain completely into the pan.

**4. Disconnect the Electrical Connectors**

* Disconnect all electrical connectors from the engine, including the battery cable, fuel injectors, sensors, and ignition coils.
* Label the connectors for easy reassembly later.

**5. Disconnect the Hoses and Lines**

* Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel filter and fuel injectors.
* Disconnect the transmission lines from the transmission cooler.
* Disconnect the power steering lines from the power steering pump.
* Disconnect any other hoses or lines connected to the engine.

**6. Remove the Engine Mounts**

* Locate the engine mounts and remove the bolts holding them in place.

**12. Install the Air Filter Box and Engine Cover**

**13. Fill the Coolant and Transmission Fluid**

* Fill the radiator with new coolant and tighten the drain plug.
* Fill the transmission with new transmission fluid and tighten the drain plug.

**14. Reconnect the Battery**

* Reconnect the negative battery terminal.

**15. Start the Engine and Check for Leaks**

* Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
* Check for any leaks from hoses, lines, or the engine itself.
* If any leaks are found, tighten the connections and recheck.

**16. Road Test**

* Take the Smart Car for a short road test to ensure that the engine is running smoothly and there are no issues.
