How Car Engine Works Animation

Introduction

A car engine is a complex machine that converts the chemical energy in gasoline into mechanical energy that turns the wheels. The four-stroke engine is the most common type of car engine, and it works by completing four strokes in each cylinder: intake, compression, power, and exhaust.

The Intake Stroke

The intake stroke begins when the piston moves down the cylinder, creating a vacuum that draws air and fuel into the cylinder through the intake valve. The intake valve then closes, and the piston begins to move up the cylinder.

The Compression Stroke

As the piston moves up the cylinder, it compresses the air and fuel mixture. This increases the pressure and temperature of the mixture, making it more likely to ignite.

The Power Stroke

When the piston reaches the top of the cylinder, the spark plug ignites the air and fuel mixture. This creates a controlled explosion that drives the piston back down the cylinder. The power stroke is the only stroke that produces power.

The Exhaust Stroke

As the piston moves down the cylinder, it opens the exhaust valve. The exhaust gases are then forced out of the cylinder and into the exhaust system. The exhaust valve then closes, and the piston begins to move up the cylinder again, starting the next intake stroke.

The Animation

The following animation shows how a four-stroke engine works:

Conclusion

The car engine is a complex machine, but it works on a relatively simple principle. By completing four strokes in each cylinder, the engine converts the chemical energy in gasoline into mechanical energy that turns the wheels.
