Engineer duty of care

My Summer Car Engine Hoist

My Summer Car Engine Hoist

I’ve been working on my Summer Car for a few months now, and one of the most important things I needed to do was build an engine hoist. An engine hoist is a device that is used to lift and lower an engine into and out of a vehicle. It’s a very important tool for anyone who works on cars, and it’s something that I’m glad I was able to build myself.

Materials

To build my engine hoist, I used the following materials:

  • 1″ steel tubing
  • 1/2″ steel plate
  • 1/4″ steel plate
  • 1/2″ bolts
  • 1/2″ nuts
  • 1/2″ washers
  • 1/4″ bolts
  • 1/4″ nuts
  • 1/4″ washers
  • Chain
  • Clevis hooks
  • Eye bolts
  • Welder
  • Angle grinder
  • Drill
  • Tap and die set

Construction

The first step in building my engine hoist was to cut the steel tubing to length. I used a hacksaw to cut the tubing, and then I used a grinder to smooth the edges. Next, I welded the tubing together to form the frame of the hoist. I used a 1/2″ steel plate to reinforce the base of the hoist, and I used 1/4″ steel plate to make the arms of the hoist.

Once the frame of the hoist was complete, I added the chain and clevis hooks. I also added eye bolts to the arms of the hoist so that I could attach the engine to the hoist. The final step was to test the hoist by lifting an engine. I used a 1-ton engine hoist to lift the engine, and the hoist worked perfectly.

Conclusion

I’m very happy with how my engine hoist turned out. It’s a sturdy and well-built hoist that will be able to lift and lower an engine into and out of my car. I’m glad that I was able to build this hoist myself, and I’m confident that it will be a valuable tool for me in the years to come.
