Different Parts of a Car Engine

1. Engine Block

The engine block is the main structural component of the engine. It houses the cylinders, which are where the pistons move up and down. The engine block also contains the crankshaft, which converts the up-and-down motion of the pistons into rotary motion.

2. Cylinder Head

The cylinder head is located at the top of the engine block and seals the combustion chambers. It contains the valves, which open and close to allow air and fuel into the cylinders and to exhaust the burned gases.

3. Pistons

The pistons are cylindrical-shaped components that move up and down inside the cylinders. They are connected to the crankshaft by connecting rods.

4. Connecting Rods

The connecting rods connect the pistons to the crankshaft. They allow the pistons to move up and down while also converting the up-and-down motion into rotary motion.

5. Crankshaft

The crankshaft is a rotating shaft that is located at the bottom of the engine block. It converts the up-and-down motion of the pistons into rotary motion.

6. Camshaft

The camshaft is a shaft that is located at the top of the engine block. It controls the opening and closing of the valves.

7. Valves

The valves are located in the cylinder head and open and close to allow air and fuel into the cylinders and to exhaust the burned gases.

8. Intake Manifold

The intake manifold is a passageway that carries air and fuel from the carburetor or fuel injector to the cylinders.

9. Exhaust Manifold

The exhaust manifold is a passageway that carries the burned gases from the cylinders to the muffler.

10. Muffler

The muffler is a device that reduces the noise of the exhaust gases.

11. Oil Pan

The oil pan is a reservoir that stores the oil that lubricates the engine.

12. Oil Pump

The oil pump circulates the oil throughout the engine.

13. Water Pump

The water pump circulates the coolant throughout the engine.

14. Timing Belt

The timing belt synchronizes the operation of the camshaft and crankshaft.

15. Spark Plugs

The spark plugs ignite the air and fuel mixture in the cylinders.

16. Fuel Injector

The fuel injector sprays fuel into the cylinders.

17. Carburetor

The carburetor mixes air and fuel together and sends the mixture to the cylinders.

18. Starter Motor

The starter motor cranks the engine to start it.

19. Alternator

The alternator generates electricity to power the electrical system of the car.

20. Battery

The battery stores electrical energy and provides power to the starter motor and other electrical components.
