Car Engine Parts Names

Engine Block

The engine block is the main structural component of the engine. It houses the cylinders, crankshaft, and other major components.

Cylinder Head

The cylinder head is mounted on top of the engine block and seals the combustion chambers. It contains the valves, spark plugs, and other components necessary for air and fuel flow.

Pistons

Pistons are cylindrical-shaped components that move up and down inside the cylinders. They compress the air and fuel mixture and transmit the force of combustion to the crankshaft.

Connecting Rods

Connecting rods connect the pistons to the crankshaft. They allow the pistons to move up and down while transferring the force of combustion to the crankshaft.

Crankshaft

The crankshaft is a rotating shaft that converts the reciprocating motion of the pistons into rotational motion. It is connected to the transmission and drives the wheels.

Camshaft

The camshaft is a shaft that controls the opening and closing of the valves. It is driven by the crankshaft and rotates at half the speed.

Valves

Valves are components that control the flow of air and fuel into and out of the cylinders. They are opened and closed by the camshaft.

Spark Plugs

Spark plugs are components that create the spark that ignites the air and fuel mixture in the cylinders.

Fuel Injectors

Fuel injectors are components that spray fuel into the cylinders. They are controlled by the engine’s computer.

Intake and Exhaust Manifolds

Intake and exhaust manifolds are components that connect the engine to the intake and exhaust systems. They allow air and fuel to enter the engine and exhaust gases to exit the engine.

Turbocharger

Turbochargers are components that increase the power output of an engine by compressing the air that enters the cylinders. They are driven by the exhaust gases.

Supercharger

Superchargers are components that increase the power output of an engine by compressing the air that enters the cylinders. They are driven by the engine’s crankshaft.

Oil Filter

Oil filters are components that remove impurities from the engine oil. They help to protect the engine from wear and damage.

Air Filter

Air filters are components that remove impurities from the air that enters the engine. They help to protect the engine from wear and damage.

Fuel Filter

Fuel filters are components that remove impurities from the fuel that enters the engine. They help to protect the engine from wear and damage.
