## Car Mechanic Simulator 2018: How to Put Oil in Engine
**Materials:**
* Engine oil
* Oil filter
* Oil filter wrench
* Funnel
* Rags
### Step 1: Locate the Oil Pan
Underneath the vehicle, identify the oil pan, which is a metal container that holds the engine oil. It is typically located at the bottom of the engine.
### Step 2: Empty the Old Oil
* Place a drain pan underneath the oil pan.
* Use an oil filter wrench to loosen the oil drain plug, which is usually located at the bottom of the oil pan.
* Allow the old oil to drain completely into the drain pan.
* Once the oil has drained, tighten the oil drain plug back on.
### Step 3: Replace the Oil Filter
* Locate the oil filter, which is a cylindrical-shaped component attached to the engine.
* Use an oil filter wrench to loosen and remove the old oil filter.
* Apply a thin layer of clean engine oil to the rubber gasket of the new oil filter.
* Screw on the new oil filter hand-tight. Do not overtighten.
### Step 4: Add New Engine Oil
* Insert a funnel into the oil filler cap, which is typically located on top of the engine.
* Pour the recommended amount of engine oil into the funnel. Refer to the vehicle’s owner’s manual for the specific oil capacity.
* Remove the funnel and replace the oil filler cap.
### Step 5: Check the Oil Level
* Start the vehicle and let it run for a few minutes.
* Turn off the engine and wait a few minutes for the oil to settle.
* Pull out the oil dipstick, wipe it clean, and reinsert it.
* Remove the dipstick and check the oil level. It should be between the “Min” and “Max” marks on the dipstick.
### Step 6: Reset the Oil Life Indicator
* If your vehicle is equipped with an oil life indicator, you need to reset it after changing the oil.
* The process for resetting the oil life indicator varies depending on the vehicle. Refer to the vehicle’s owner’s manual for specific instructions.
### Troubleshooting
* **Oil leaking from the oil pan:** Ensure that the oil drain plug and oil filter are tightened securely. Replace the gaskets if necessary.
* **Oil leaking from the oil filter:** Tighten the oil filter further. If the leak persists, replace the oil filter.
* **Overfilling the engine with oil:** Drain excess oil until the oil level is between the “Min” and “Max” marks on the dipstick. Overfilling can cause engine damage.
* **Underfilling the engine with oil:** Add additional oil until the oil level is between the “Min” and “Max” marks on the dipstick. Underfilling can cause engine damage.
* **Engine making noise after changing oil:** Ensure that the oil filter is installed correctly and tightened securely. Check for any loose or disconnected hoses or wires.
### Tips
* Use the recommended engine oil specified in the vehicle’s owner’s manual.
* Change the engine oil and oil filter regularly according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
* Keep a record of the oil changes and the mileage at which they were performed.
* If you are not comfortable performing this procedure yourself, it is recommended to have it done by a qualified mechanic.
