Car Engine Parts and Functions

1. Pistons

The pistons are the heart of the engine. They move up and down inside the cylinders, compressing the air-fuel mixture and then pushing it out of the cylinders to create power.

2. Connecting Rods

The connecting rods connect the pistons to the crankshaft. They transmit the power from the pistons to the crankshaft, which then converts it into rotary motion.

3. Crankshaft

The crankshaft is a long, rotating shaft that sits at the bottom of the engine. It converts the up-and-down motion of the pistons into rotary motion.

4. Camshaft

The camshaft is a shaft that sits at the top of the engine. It controls the opening and closing of the valves, which allow the air-fuel mixture into the cylinders and the exhaust gases out of the cylinders.

5. Valves

The valves are small, spring-loaded discs that open and close to allow the air-fuel mixture into the cylinders and the exhaust gases out of the cylinders.

6. Cylinder Head

The cylinder head is a metal casting that sits at the top of the engine. It contains the valves, the camshaft, and the spark plugs.

7. Oil Pan

The oil pan is a metal pan that sits at the bottom of the engine. It holds the engine oil, which lubricates the engine’s moving parts.

8. Water Pump

The water pump is a pump that circulates coolant through the engine. The coolant helps to keep the engine from overheating.

9. Alternator

The alternator is a generator that produces electricity to power the engine’s electrical components, such as the lights, the ignition system, and the fuel injection system.

10. Starter Motor

The starter motor is an electric motor that starts the engine. It engages with the flywheel and turns it over, which starts the engine running.

These are just a few of the many parts that make up a car engine. Each part plays an important role in the engine’s operation, and if any one of them fails, the engine will not be able to run properly.
