Car Engine Compartment Parts
Engine
- Block: The main structural component of the engine, which houses the cylinders, crankshaft, and other internal parts.
- Head: The upper part of the engine that contains the valves, camshaft, and spark plugs.
- Pistons: Cylindrical components that move up and down within the cylinders, converting the combustion of fuel into mechanical energy.
- Crankshaft: A rotating shaft that converts the linear motion of the pistons into rotational motion.
- Camshaft: A shaft that controls the opening and closing of the valves.
Fuel System
- Fuel tank: Stores the fuel for the engine.
- Fuel pump: Supplies fuel to the engine.
- Fuel filter: Removes impurities from the fuel.
- Fuel injectors: Spray fuel into the cylinders.
Electrical System
- Battery: Provides electrical power to the engine and other components.
- Starter: Turns the engine over to start it.
- Alternator: Generates electricity to charge the battery.
- Wiring harness: Connects the electrical components together.
Cooling System
- Radiator: Dissipates heat from the engine coolant.
- Water pump: Circulates coolant through the engine and radiator.
- Thermostat: Regulates the flow of coolant through the radiator.
- Coolant: A liquid that absorbs heat from the engine.
Exhaust System
- Exhaust manifold: Collects the exhaust gases from the engine.
- Catalytic converter: Converts harmful pollutants in the exhaust gases into less harmful substances.
- Muffler: Reduces the noise of the exhaust gases.
- Tailpipe: Directs the exhaust gases out of the vehicle.
Other Components
- Air intake system: Supplies air to the engine.
- Transmission: Transmits power from the engine to the wheels.
- Suspension system: Absorbs shocks and vibrations from the road.
- Braking system: Slows down or stops the vehicle.
