BMW Car Engine Parts
Engine Block
The engine block is the main structural component of the engine. It houses the cylinders, crankshaft, and other internal components. The engine block is made of cast iron or aluminum alloy.
Cylinder Head
The cylinder head is located at the top of the engine block and forms the combustion chamber. It contains the valves, spark plugs, and other components necessary for combustion.
Crankshaft
The crankshaft is a rotating shaft that converts the reciprocating motion of the pistons into rotary motion. The crankshaft is connected to the wheels by the transmission.
Piston
The piston is a cylindrical component that moves up and down within the cylinder. The piston is connected to the crankshaft by the connecting rod.
Connecting Rod
The connecting rod connects the piston to the crankshaft. The connecting rod allows the piston to move up and down while the crankshaft rotates.
Valve
The valve is a component that controls the flow of air and fuel into and out of the combustion chamber. The valve is operated by the camshaft.
Camshaft
The camshaft is a shaft that controls the timing of the valves. The camshaft is driven by the crankshaft.
Oil Pump
The oil pump circulates oil throughout the engine to lubricate the moving components. The oil pump is driven by the crankshaft.
Water Pump
The water pump circulates coolant throughout the engine to keep it cool. The water pump is driven by the crankshaft.
Fuel Injector
The fuel injector is a component that sprays fuel into the combustion chamber. The fuel injector is controlled by the engine control unit.
Ignition Coil
The ignition coil is a component that creates the spark that ignites the fuel in the combustion chamber. The ignition coil is controlled by the engine control unit.
Oxygen Sensor
The oxygen sensor is a component that monitors the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gas. The oxygen sensor is used by the engine control unit to adjust the air-fuel ratio.
Mass Airflow Sensor
The mass airflow sensor is a component that measures the amount of air flowing into the engine. The mass airflow sensor is used by the engine control unit to calculate the air-fuel ratio.
Throttle Body
The throttle body is a component that controls the amount of air flowing into the engine. The throttle body is operated by the driver through the accelerator pedal.
Exhaust Manifold
The exhaust manifold is a component that collects the exhaust gases from the cylinders and directs them to the exhaust system. The exhaust manifold is made of cast iron or stainless steel.
Catalytic Converter
The catalytic converter is a component that reduces the emissions of harmful pollutants from the exhaust gases. The catalytic converter is made of a ceramic honeycomb coated with a catalyst.
Muffler
The muffler is a component that reduces the noise level of the exhaust gases. The muffler is made of perforated metal or fiberglass.
