All Parts of a Car Engine

Engine Block

The engine block is the main structural component of an engine. It houses the cylinders, crankshaft, camshaft, and other essential parts. The engine block is typically made of cast iron or aluminum.

Cylinder Head

The cylinder head sits on top of the engine block and seals the combustion chambers. It contains the valves, spark plugs, and injector nozzles. The cylinder head is typically made of aluminum or cast iron.

Pistons

Pistons move up and down within the cylinders. They compress the air-fuel mixture and transmit the force of the combustion to the crankshaft.

Crankshaft

The crankshaft converts the reciprocating motion of the pistons into rotational motion. It is connected to the flywheel and the transmission.

Camshaft

The camshaft controls the opening and closing of the valves. It is driven by the crankshaft.

Valves

Valves allow air-fuel mixture into the cylinders and exhaust gases out. They are opened and closed by the camshaft.

Spark Plugs

Spark plugs provide the spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture in the cylinders.

Injector Nozzles

Injector nozzles spray the air-fuel mixture into the cylinders.

Flywheel

The flywheel stores energy during the power stroke and releases it during the other strokes. It also helps to smooth out the engine’s operation.

Transmission

The transmission changes the speed and direction of the crankshaft’s rotation. It sends power to the wheels.

Cooling System

The cooling system keeps the engine from overheating. It consists of a radiator, water pump, thermostat, and hoses.

Lubrication System

The lubrication system circulates oil to the engine’s moving parts. It reduces friction and wear.

Fuel System

The fuel system supplies the engine with fuel. It consists of a fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, and fuel lines.

Electrical System

The electrical system provides power to the engine’s electrical components, such as the starter, alternator, and ignition system.
